The high level civilisation in the world is based strongly on welded metal structures, which keep constructions in shape and machines running. Their design and production are one of the most fascinating engineering tasks.
In this Master’s programme you will acquire the newest and most purposeful knowledge and expertise for the design and manufacturing of innovative, sustainable, competitive and safe welded metal structures for demanding applications, especially for dynamic loading or arctic conditions.
The teaching combines theoretical studies and laboratory exercises in modern environment with advanced methods to ensure that you will have excellent skills for your future career in both academia and industry.
You will learn from different teams of experts from the laboratory of steel structures, welding and laser technologies who will bring the newest results of high-level research to you.
Teaching and research are carried out in close cooperation with enterprises and other universities and research institutions.
Intended learning outcomes
After completing the study programme you will have acquired comprehensive knowledge in design, analysing, fabrication and research of the modern and competitive welded metal structures, and the specific knowledge and competencies for this area of specialisation.
In this Master’s programme you will acquire knowledge and expertise for carrying out lifetime and reliability calculations and tests for different types of mechanical structures, especially for welded metal constructions under various types of loading conditions, including harsh environmental loads (e.g. wind, ice, seawater etc.) and dynamic loading cases.
You will also acquire good understanding about strength and ductility properties of metallic materials and their behavior under long-term loading cases together with their weldability aspects.
These outcomes will give you good know-how to design different types of metal structures such as machine bodies, bridges, buildings, structural components and bodies for vehicles or supporting structures for different types of engineering applications.
