The MSc program in Business Administration offers a broad and interesting platform of theory and tools that will make you relevant and attractive for today’s labour market. The UiS Business School has close contact with business, and offers an active and social environment for students.
A specialisation in economics will set you up with competence and research tools to analyse economic behaviour and relationships in business, for the public sector, and for society at large.
You will be capable of conducting competent analyses of business cycles and capital markets, labour markets and wage formation, environmental economics and energy markets. Within the economics profile we have two tracks for sub-specialisation, namely motivation and labour markets and/or energy, resource, and environmental economics. A specialisation in economics will offer career opportunities in private businesses (finance, industry, energy) and in the public sector (local and central government, directorates).
A specialisation in finance will prepare you for work with financing of investment and operations of private and public enterprises.
Relevant themes include capital structure, valuation of assets and investment projects, evaluation of M&A decisions, as well as various types of capital (fund) management. This specialisation also offers specific competence on corporate organization and governance, as well as processes related to acquisitions and divestitures. You will be introduced to methods and tools that form the basis for valuation and investment decisions in various types of businesses and financial institutions. With a specialisation in finance you are highly relevant for job opportunities in banking, capital management, and corporate finance.
Strategic Marketing and Analytics
A specialisation in in strategic marketing and analytics provides you with knowledge of marketing from a strategic perspective and enhances your strategic capabilities and skills.
The program blends knowledge of strategy and marketing science with a data-analytic approach to decision making. This applied program allows you to address real-world business challenges by learning from word-class faculty who knows you by name, working in teams on business cases, and engaging with industry through lectures by industry experts and work-integrated learning experiences. The career specialisation in strategic marketing and analytics is built on the principles of an engaged collaborative learning community, where your fellow students, faculty, industry, and alumni form your network ofpersonal and professional relationships, enabling you to achieve your professional goals throughout your career.
A specialisation in Business innovation gives you a deeper understanding of the significance of innovation for companies, industries, and society at large. You will be introduced to the structure and anatomy of innovation processes, how strategy and organization influences the capacity and ability to innovate, as well as the role of companies in networks and systems that are important for innovation.
Moreover, this specialisation builds competence on the role of innovation of the economy, and how innovation can be studied and understood in a broader societal context. As future leaders and professionals, students on this specialisation will be able to contribute to policy design and strategy formation to foster innovation both in private and public enterprises.
The MSc program in business administration offers wide-ranging career opportunities in business, industry, government, and professional organisations, with prospects in terms of both leadership and professional expert careers. Examples of job content include economic research, fund management, investment analysis, corporate finance, energy and environmental analyses, system design for incentivized motivation, brand building and strategic marketing, innovation strategy and policy formation.
A master of science degree in business administration also meets the formal requirement for admission to PhD programs.

In order to be eligible for these specialisations, a Bachelor’s degree including minimum 90 ECTS in the following subjects is required:
- Business Economics (accounting, investment analysis etc.)
- Administrative Sciences (marketing, organisation and leadership, business strategy etc.)
- Economics (macroeconomics, microeconomics etc.)
- Methodology (mathematics, statistics, research methods etc.)
The subjects within the fields of business economics and administrative sciences must be equal to minimum 30 ECTS. The methodology subjects must include both mathematics and statistics.
New requirement from 2018/2019 – GRE/GMAT
- GRE Revised General Test (GRE) with at least 152 points in the Quantitative Reasoning section.
You must add UiS as a recipient using our institutional code 0109. In addition you must upload a copy of your test result as PDF.
- Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) with at least 600 points.
You must order a score report to be sent online to the University of Stavanger. In addition you must upload a copy of your test result as PDF.
Test scores are valid for five years.
Applicants with a completed degree from an institution in Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland or Norway are exempted from the GRE/GMAT test.
Applicants who enter this programme as international applicants will after completing the programme receive the degree Master of Science in Business Administration. They will not automatically obtain the professional title siviløkonom.
The minimum GPA (grade point average) for admission to this Master’s programme is 60% or 3 on the ECTS grading scale. However, admission to this programme is highly competitive and applicants must demonstrate good academic standards and top grades.
