Studying in the Master’s Degree Programme in Business Informatics will deepen your business skills as well as strategic and managerial expertise through improved understanding of information management, business intelligence systems and ICT platforms. The Master’s degree programme in Business Informatics consists of
- Advanced professional studies, 50 ECTS
- Business Strategy and Management, 15 ECTS
- Business Analysis and Development, 15 ECTS
- Business Growth and Innovation, 20 ECTS
- Elective studies, 10 ECTS
- Master’s Thesis, 30 ECTS
You will plan and implement a development project in real business life, typically for your own place of work. In doing so, your research, project management and change leadership skills will be enhanced. Networking, team and negotiation skills will be improved in the multi-cultural, tied-to-business setting in which this Master’s DP is carried out. You will report your RDI development project as a Master’s Thesis combining your development work with academic research (30 ECTS).
Graduate in Two Years
The Master’s Degree Programme in Business Informatics makes it possible to combine studying with full-time work. The length of your studies is determined by the entry line through which you get accepted (either Engineering or Business). For the Master of Business Administration it is 2 years.
Enjoy Multi-Disciplinary Approach and Contact Sessions
Studying in our Degree Programme takes place in intensive contact sessions that are mainly arranged every other Friday. However, evening classes or an intensive weekend session or a study trip may be arranged. An additional feature of learning in the Master’s degree programme in Business Informatics comes from its multi-disciplinary approach: many courses include students studying for the Master’s degree in Business Administration as well as for the Master’s degree in Engineering. A lot is expected from you but a lot is also given by the professionals in business and academic world lecturing and leading the sessions.

Eligibility for a UAS Master’s degree programme is conferred by an appropriate UAS higher education degree or another appropriate higher education degree and at least three years of subsequent work experience in a relevant field. As a relevant field is regarded both the field being applied to and the field of the previous higher education degree.
Appropriate higher education degrees are:
- the Finnish Bachelor of Business Administration degree (tradenomi AMK); or
- some other appropriate Finnish higher education degree with minimum extent of 210 cr (ECTS) containing/combined with 40 cr (ECTS) of higher education studies in business field; or
- some other appropriate Finnish higher education degree combined a former Finnish “college level” degree (opisto- / ammatillisen korkea-asteen tutkinto) in the relevant field; or
- appropriate foreign higher education degree equivalent to the above mentioned Finnish higher education degrees in terms of level, extent and content (assessed by the degree programme).
In addition to the appropriate higher education degree, applicants must have 36 months (three years) of subsequent work experience in a relevant field accumulated as from the date of issue of the final higher education degree certificate and obtained no later than 31 July 2019. Universities of applied sciences also accept work experience obtained after completion of Finnish (must be completed in Finland) post-secondary or higher vocational level diploma (in any field of education) but prior to the date of issue of the final higher education degree certificate. In such cases, too, at least three years of work experience obtained in a relevant field is required.
Entrepreneurship will be accepted as work experience if an applicant can produce a certificate attesting that he or she is or has been covered under the statutory YEL or MYEL pension scheme. (YEL = statutory pension scheme for entrepreneurs; MYEL = statutory pension scheme for farmers, forest estate owners, fishers and reindeer herders and their family members). Enterprising activities abroad should be substantiated with comparable official documents.
Work experience is given in full months. When converting part-time work (work under 35 hours per week) into its full-time equivalent, 150 hours or 20 working days lasting at least 7 hours per day correspond to one month of work. Work experience does not have to be continuous or obtained with the same employer. The amount of work experience points awarded for simultaneous employment relationships may not exceed the amount awarded for full-time employment.
Military or non-military national service, women’s voluntary military service or child-care leave will not be counted towards work experience.
