MSc graduates in Civil Engineering are responsible for the planning, design, risk assessment, construction, and maintenance of buildings, infrastructure, and entire cities. This challenge requires profound knowledge and understanding of a number of different areas – including roads, railways, bridges and tunnels, houses, load-bearing structures and facades, heating, lighting, acoustics and fire safety, water supply, drains and sewers, canals, harbours and offshore structures as well as urban planning.
Study programme focus
‘Civil Engineering’ focuses on the development, planning, design, and construction of building and engineering structures.
The MSc programme in Civil Engineering offers a wide range of courses in mechanics, material science, energy technology, heat and mass transfer, fire safety, hydraulics, acoustics, risk assessment, computer modelling and simulation, 3D visualization, communication, and management.
The study programme alternates between theory and practice, providing you with an overview of all stages of the construction process—from calculation and computer simulation to project management and construction of buildings.
Combine work with studies
This study programme is also available as a Corporate study programme where you can combine work and study over a 4-year period. Special rules apply.
Corporate MSc Eng programmes
The MSc programme in Civil Engineering allows you to specialize in one of the seven study lines:
- Building Structures
- Fire SafetyEngineering
- Building Services
- Bridges, Pavements and Large Structures
- Urban Planning and Construction Management
- Marine Technology and Coastal Engineering
- Marine Technology and Geotechnical Engineering
- Extreme Engineering
- Option 1 – Sustainable Buildings
- Option 2 – Infrastructure Constructions
From the spring semester 2016, it will be possible to do an Arctic semester, which will consist of four courses based in Sisimiut, Greenland.
You should be aware, however, that the choice of courses in the students’ individual study plan offers a high degree of flexibility. Therefore, you have every opportunity to design your own study programme and career by choosing from the wide range of courses offered at DTU.
MSc graduates in Civil Engineering typically find employment in consulting engineering companies or as contractors or manufacturers. Others work for local authorities, public agencies, or educational and research institutions. Finally, some students end up starting their own companies.
