Introduction to the programme
Bio-informatics: Computer science with a focus on molecular biology
The master programme Computer Science + Molecular Biology will equip you with knowledge, skills and competencies in software engineering and molecular biology.
You will learn techniques and theories to analyse, design and construct software systems, including software engineering methods and principles, computer and system architecture, algorithms and data representation as well as design principles for human-machine interfaces.
You will acquire knowledge of theories and methods for analysis, design and implementation of IT applications: systems development methods and principles, IT architecture, innovative IT applications as a product, service or process and interaction between IT solutions and uses. You will learn about cell biology and physiology, molecular genetics, biochemistry, genetic and protein engineering and bio-informatics.
The programme will provide you with the skills to organise, manage and plan a system development project, including the software component, especially where the development and application of molecular biological models and methodologies are key, e.g. in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry or in IT companies operating within the field of biotechnology.
The programme will provide you with a wide range of job opportunities in the IT industry, the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry or in IT companies operating within the field of biotechnology as:
- IT developer
- Programmer or IT architect
- Project manager
The master degree qualifies graduates to start on a PhD programme.
Applicants with other bachelor’s degree than those listed as qualifying for admission
If you hold another bachelor’s degree than the ones mentioned in this document, you can still apply for admission to the master’s programme. In order to gain admission you must have a relevant bachelor’s degree with qualifications corresponding to one of the bachelor’s degrees qualifying for admission. When you have applied, the university will assess the academic content of your bachelor’s degree. If the university assesses that your bachelor’s degree is relevant and gives you qualifications that correspond to one of the qualifying degrees, you may be offered admission. If the university assesses that your bachelor’s degree is relevant for admission to the master’s programme which you have applied for but that you lack few essential qualifications, the university may decide that you have to complete prerequisite studies amounting to no more than 30 ECTS points in order to be admitted. You must complete prerequisite studies before being enrolled in the master’s programme.
