About the Programme

Starting in September 2019: The Master’s Program in Conservation with a Specialization in the Conservation of Paintings.

The Master’s Program aims to offer a specialization within the field of conservation following ENCoRE requirements. The specialization will alternate every second year, beginning with conservation of paintings. The program educates professionals through an interdisciplinary approach based on innovative inquiry and research. The degree incorporates professional codes of ethics and scientific methods of analysis to assess the condition of paintings and to implement preventive and remedial methods for conservation. The development of methodological and technical skills will incorporate critical thinking in conservation, reflecting the impacts of decisions on context and treatment.

The degree is divided in two parts with the main teaching courses running over the first year. The second year is dedicated to internships and a research-based dissertation. Courses are taught in a series of lectures, seminars, tutorials, laboratory sessions and study trips. The program is carried out in close co-operation with national and international organizations. If you already have an extensive practical experience in conservation will have the choice of undertaking a 60-credit dissertation instead of an internship and a 30-credit dissertation.

A prerequisite for the Master’s is a first degree (Bachelor’s) in conservation or equivalent. All courses are mandatory. Teaching will be primarily in English.
