The programme gives you the opportunity to study how computers can make sense of human language and how humans communicate through language. It will provide you with advanced training in the discipline called human language technology, combining skills from computer science, artificial intelligence and linguistics.
Required specialization and minimum grade requirement
You must have a minimum grade average comparable to a Norwegian C in the required specialization. All foreign education is individually evaluated during the admission process.
Please note that eligible applicants who fulfill the minimum grade requirement will compete for a study place. Please see the section on ranking for more information on selection criteria.
The required specialization consists of 80 ECTS credit informatics, mathematics/statistics, language/linguistics or cognitive science, including 30 ECTS credit of courses at the lowest level (1000 courses) and 20 ECTS credits on advanced level (2000- and 3000 courses), where the following are included:
20 ECTS credits programming
20 ECTS credits language technology, or machine learning
The required specialization is considered covered for applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in Informatics: Language and communication, or Informatics: Language Technology, from the University of Oslo.
