Business today is increasingly global, offering great growth potential for new entrepreneurs and existing companies alike.

You may want to become a successful entrepreneur by creating your own business or to develop a successful career in management in existing companies, but to succeed, you will first need to develop the right mindset and skills.

In this programme, you will learn how to develop the entrepreneurial competencies for creating a new business and leading its growth to international markets. The programme provides you with everything you need to become successful in global business: you will gain the skills to work as a leading professional in internationally operating companies as well as the entrepreneurial skills necessary to launch and operate your own global startup. Both skills together will make you attractive in today’s global business environment and provide you with employment options in the long term.

You will also learn how to manage the international growth and strategy of a company, how to manage finances and resources in international markets, and how to lead people in a multinational company.

The programme also engages the local entrepreneurs and associations in the studies, thus you will learn from real-life cases from real companies and entrepreneurs. During your studies, you have an opportunity to consult the companies, to network with them and to learn first-hand from starting out and successful international entrepreneurs and business professionals.

After completing the programme, your career opportunities will include becoming an international entrepreneur, a manager in an international or multinational enterprise, or a management consultant on internationalisation strategies.

Intended learning outcomes

In this programme, you will acquire advanced knowledge and skills in entrepreneurship in an international context.

You will develop an entrepreneurial mindset and management skills for the international market place combined with analytical skills.

After graduation, you will be able to:

  • understand and assess the opportunities and challenges of global markets,
  • discover, evaluate, and develop international entrepreneurial opportunities,
  • recognise and discuss the role of sustainability when conducting business internationally as well as domestically,
  • critically and analytically discuss and apply theories on international business and entrepreneurship to present managerial recommendations,
  • develop a sustainable analytical, entrepreneurial, and global mindset,
  • develop your own ideas into concrete business plan for international business operations together with your fellow MIBE students, engineering managers and experts,
  • build innovation prototypes with technology students at the Jamie Hyneman Center,
  • design unique business idea for a multinational corporation and build its international business strategies,
  • run a multinational corporation through a strategic simulation game with your fellow students,
  • solve business cases with professional consultants,
  • consult entrepreneurs and their firms on internationalisation strategy,
  • understand global trade, internationalisation strategies of firms, and how to recognise and seize international opportunities,

visualise and set your goals for your global entrepreneurial journey.

Degree structure and studies

The Master’s Programme in International Business and Entrepreneurship is a two-year programme. It leads to the degree of Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration, M.Sc. (Econ. & Bus. Admin.), which is 120 ECTS credits.

The programme includes core, specialisation, minor and language studies.

Core studies (48 ECTS credits) include courses on starting and leading a growth enterprise, the internationalisation of a firm, and financial management.

Specialisation studies (42 ECTS credits) include courses on topics such as managing and consulting international startups and multinational companies.

Minor studies (24-25 ECTS credits) include courses on digitalisation, business analytics, and international marketing.

Language studies (excl. English), 6 ECTS credits.

The Master’s thesis and seminar, 30 ECTS credits, is a part of specialisation studies. The thesis is an advanced research project, which requires approximately six months of full-time work.

Earning your degree in international business and entrepreneurship offers you many promising career options.

After graduation, you will have the mindset and skills to launch and operate a startup geared for international growth and global success.

You will also be able to manage global business operations in multinational companies and work as a consultant for internationally operating companies on matters relating to their business operations.

You may become an entrepreneur, an export manager in a small- or medium-sized enterprise, or a director of international operations in a multinational company.

Requirements for the Completed Degree

Degrees Completed in Finland

  • Bachelor of Science in Economics or Business Administration

    Completed in a University
    Having already completed a degree Kauppatieteiden maisteri at the time of applying or, completing it before starting the LUT Master’s studies makes you ineligible to apply.
  • Bachelor of Business Administration
    Tradenomi (AMK)
    Completed in a University of Applied Sciences
  • Master of Business Administration
    Tradenomi (YAMK)
    Completed in a University of Applied Sciences

    • Previous degree completed: Tradenomi (AMK)
      > You are required to apply with the degree Tradenomi (AMK).
    • Previous degree completed: Bachelor’s Degree (AMK) in a field other than Business Administration
      > You are required to apply with the previous Bachelor’s Degree (AMK)
      Copy for the Degree Certificate for Tradenomi (YAMK) to be included in the application documents to get exempted from taking the GMAT Test or GRE General Test. 
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a field other than Business Administration
    Completed in a University
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a field other than Business Administration
    Completed in a University of Applied Sciences

Degrees Completed Worldwide (excluding Finland)

  • Bachelor of Science in Economics or Business Administration – All countries
    Completed in a University
    Having already completed a Master’s Degree in Economics/BA at the time of applying or, completing it before starting the LUT Master’s studies makes you ineligible to apply.
  • Bachelor of Business Administration – EU/EEA countries
    Completed in a University of Applied Sciences
    Having completed a Master’s Degree in BA still makes you eligible to apply, but only when applying with a Bachelor’s Degree.
    Both the above mentioned degrees have to meet with the following criteria:

    • The degree must be equivalent to a similar Finnish Bachelor’s Degree regarding to number of academic years and ECTS credits required.
    • The degree must give you eligibility to apply to university level Master’s studies in the country where the degree was completed in.
    • A minimum of 80 ECTS credits of studies in Business Administration to be included in the degree.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a field other than Business Administration – All countries
    Completed in a University
    GMAT Test or GRE General Test with minimum required score/s required. Further information at Required Documents > GMAT and GRE General Tests.

NOTE: The Admissions Committee for the programme reserves a right to decide whether the degree and the completed studies provide the applicant with eligibility to apply to the programme.

 

Requirements for the Degree Awarding University

The university awarding you the degree that you are applying with must be an official and recognized part of the national education system and has to be listed on the World Higher Education Database WHED by International Association of Universities.

 

Possibility to Apply as Undergraduate

You are eligible to apply as undergraduate and if admitted, you must

  • Complete your degree by July 31, 2019
  • Mail an officially certified copy of your Degree Certificate and Transcript of Records together with the official translations (if applicable), to LUT Admissions Services in a way that they are received by August 5, 2019 at 15:00 (GMT +2)
    • Degrees completed in certain countries require you to follow the country-specific document requirements for authenticating and/or delivering your educational documents.
    • Prepare yourself for a long period of time required for the authentication process before being able to mail us the documents.

 

Requirements for Proficiency in English

Accepted Language Tests

One of the following language tests in English with at least the minimum score mentioned is required for you to prove your proficiency in English:

NOTE: A Language Certificate issued by your home university or any other institution or organisation is not accepted.

When a Language Test Result is Not Required?

Validity for the Language Test

Your language test result has to be valid at least on the first day of the application period i.e. on December 3, 2018. If not, you are required to take a new language test as you will not be eligible to apply with an expired language test result.

All the language test results accepted by LUT are valid for two years from the date of taking the test.

 

Minimum Requirement for Programme-Specific Studies

To possibly get admitted, you must have completed

  • a minimum of 24 ECTS credits of studies in International Business or Entrepreneurship
