Live Art and Performance Studies (LAPS) is a two-year English-language Master’s programme that focuses on Artistic and Performance Research. It is one of the very few Master’s programmes in the world that focuses on the intersection of Performance Studies and the practice of Live Art/Performance Art.

How to apply

The next application period to Uniarts Helsinki for LAPS is January 2021. Applying takes place electronically via the Opintopolku (Studyinfo) service. Prior to applying, carefully read the admissions instructions of Uniarts Helsinki’s Theatre Academy.

Studies

The LAPS programme provides an interdisciplinary approach to Performance Art / Live Art and Performance Studies. The diverse fields of our lecturers, mentors and visiting artists and theorists reflect our eclectic approach. LAPS is constructed around rotating 1-to-1 mentorships, and includes group seminars in areas of core knowledge, art criticism, actionism and live art.

Eligibility

In order to be accepted as a graduate student of the Theatre Academy, you need to have the previous education specifically stated by the degree programme you are applying to, and be able to attest this with a completed degree or proof of previous studies.

 

The Theatre Academy will separately ascertain the eligibility of each applicant prior to the entrance examination, based on the application, certificates and other clarifications sent by the applicant.

Applicants who are refugees or in a refugee-like situation and unable to submit documentary evidence of their qualification may still be deemed eligible to apply. The applicant must have an official statement of refugee status from the authorities (a decision on refuge or residence permit on the basis of protection). The applicant must submit a copy of the aforementioned decision to the admissions office no later than 30 January 2019 at 3 p.m. Finnish time.

 

Language Skill requirements

In order to be admitted as a degree student, applicants must have command of the language of instruction used in the programme. They must demonstrate their skills with a language certificate or prior studies.

 

If a programme has several languages of instruction, applicants are only required to prove their proficiency in one of the languages. If the degree programme or e.g. the joint programme requires the demand of several languages, the admission criteria of the programme may require applicants to demonstrate their language skills in several languages.
