About the programme

The Master’s degree programme in Materials Science and Engineering is an interdisciplinary study programme that focuses on (i) environmentally friendly production and recycling of metals, (ii) the chemical, physical and mechanical aspects of alloy development and use, as well as (iii) development of new materials and the use of materials for energy purposes (batteries and fuel cells).

The knowledge and experience gained within the areas covered in the present study programme will be of importance for the material industry both internationally and for Norway as an industrial nation.

To tailor you expertise you can choose between the following three specialisations which you apply directly to, i.e.:

Specialization 1: Resources, Energy and Environment

Specialization 2: Material Development and Use

Specialization 3: Materials for Energy Technology

 

Academic prerequisites

For the MSc program in Materials Science and Engineering a BSc/BEng degree or equivalent (normally 3 to 4 years) in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy, Inorganic/Physical Chemistry or Chemical engineering with an average grade of C or better is required.

To be admitted to the 2 years Master Program in Technology, the following is required:
A Bachelor’s Degree with a strong background in Material Sciences and Engineering which contains at least 25 ECTS in mathematics, 5 ECTS in statistics, and 7,5 ECTS in physics, or the equivalent of these.
