If you have a solid background from a previous Bachelor’s programme in classical singing/opera, or equivalent professional experience, The Master’s Programme in Opera, vocal performance (60 credits) will give you the opportunity to embrace aspects of your artistry that you wish to develop and deepen. At the heart of the programme is your independent project that focuses on a topic in your profession as an opera singer. You will formulate and develop the project over the course of the programme. Through supervision from our senior lecturers and professors, studies of methods in artistic work and within artistic research and through the meetings with researching artists, you will have the tools to conduct an individual exploration of the artistic work as an opera singer. You will also receive skills training in coaching and singing lessons, and will participate in a collaboration with Wermland Opera.
Following professional experience or directly after your Bachelor’s degree in classical singing or opera, perhaps you have found elements you wish to develop and deepen. It could be a role that you need to study, or a year to work with your vocal and scenic expressions. The Master’s Programme in Opera, vocal performance (60 credits), will help you develop your artistry and to discover methods to work independently and explore the role as an opera singer. During your year at the University College of Opera, you will encounter master students from the other departments at Uniarts, and will be able to take aspects of your research work to stimulate your own explorative work as a singer, and help find methods contributing to your artistic development. The Master’s Programme in Opera, vocal performance (60 credits) gives you the tools to participate in professional life as an independent and creative opera singer.
The programme is research preparatory and provides eligibility for studies at third-cycle level.
General Entry Requirement:
Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor’s degree or professional qualification of at least 180 credit points or equivalent.
Specific entry requirements:
- English 5 or equivalent
- Bachelor of Fine Arts or equivalent higher edueducation qualification in classical singing or opera of at least 180 credits or equivalent.
If you don’t fulfil the formal entry requirements for the programme you may apply for recognition of prior learning, in other words that the knowledge and competence you have acquired through other activities are assessed as the equivalent of the formal merits that are required. Submit your application for recognition of prior learning with your application for the programme.
You may also apply for an exemption/a waiver, that allows you to proceed to the selection process even though you don’t meet the general admission requirements. Submit your application for an exemption/a waiver together with your application.
