We educate the public health professionals of tomorrow
A person’s right to the highest attainable standard of health, has no geographical or social boundaries. However, we have seen how poverty and lack of democratic governance impede many people’s access to this right globally. In order to abolish health inequalities, global partnerships and the effective spread of knowledge are essential. We must therefore educate future public health experts who have a broad, interdisciplinary perspective and the will to participate in this global effort.
The Lund University master of public health programme is an international environment where about 30 nationalities study together from all continents of the world. You will learn from your fellow students’ experiences – as well as from the faculty’s vast international experience of research and public health work in the field. As one student expressed it, “The class and teaching are a microcosm of the global context we’ll face in work life.”
We apply a student-cantered learning approach, where you as a student have the opportunity to reach your own learning objectives and where you are encouraged to seek knowledge independently. This is facilitated by a relative small class-size of 40 students in each year, and through the award-winning modern on-campus facilities in the city of Malmö, Sweden’s most cosmopolitan urban area with the rest of Europe at your doorstep.
Whether you have a background in or is new to the field of public health, our programme is adaptable to your specific interests, while it will provide you with the right mix of grounding in the core disciplines of public health, as well as a specialized focus to meet your individual goals.
The programme was initiated in 2001, and has evolved ever since. Now, in 2018, the Lund MPH was the most applied Master’s programme in Sweden, which we think is a good indicator of the programme’s high-standing reputation and overall quality. Of course, this makes the admissions process highly competitive, but it also means that the student-body consist of individuals with great drive and ambition.
In a recent alumni survey, roughly 2/3 of those responding were employed within the field of public health. Of these, 96 % had found their public health employment within a year after graduating. Of those working in the public health sector, about 1/3 were primarily involved in research including institutions such as Lund University, Karolinska Institute, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Charité in Berlin, Copenhagen University, Makerere University, and the US CDC.
Our programme is highly valued by national and international employers. You will find our alumni employed by the Global Fund, WHO, UNICEF, UNITAID, national ministries of health, and regional and local government agencies, but also in a wide array of NGOs such as Save the Children, the Danish Family Planning Association, Headspace Australia, and FIMRC.
