The programme provides an in-depth picture of the Scandinavian area from various historical and contemporary perspectives. Although the whole Scandinavian region is included, the emphasis is on the northern regions.
Broad cultural and social issues are illuminated from different humanistic and social perspectives, including the Nordic languages, as well as other languages used in the Nordic region, especially the official minority languages. This approach provides students with knowledge about processes of change over time where historical development and current trends are described within political, social and ideological frameworks.
The programme aims to prepare students for a working life where advanced knowledge of and critical perspectives on the Scandinavian area are in demand. The programme provides a foundation for research studies but also career opportunities in areas of cultural mediation and broad and deep social analysis.
The programme is taught in Swedish and is designed for Swedish and international students with an undergraduate degree in Scandinavian Studies or similar degrees dealing with the study of one of the Scandinavian languages (Swedish, Norwegian or Danish) and culture.
