The focus of the programme is the specialization to manage prevention, gain expertise in clinical reasoning and decision making, and manage rehabilitation processes including collaboration with athletes, coaches and other sport professionals in multidisciplinary teams.

In addition to competitive sports you will be able to promote the physically active lifestyle among people representing different age groups and levels of functioning and ensure their safe participation in recreational sport and exercise.
City of Jyväskylä is the leading sport city gathering the highest level of expertise in exercise, sports, wellbeing, health, rehabilitation and learning in the entire country. Parts of this master programme is carried out with EduFutura Jyväskylä, a partnership in learning including JAMK, University of Jyväskylä, and Jyväskylä Educational Consortium Gradia. This unique learning environment offers students excellent potential further develop their careers in sports and exercise physiotherapy.
The study mode is part-time studies. The courses take place both on-campus in JAMK’s facilities in Jyväskylä and online. In order to apply for the program the students are required to have at least two years of working experience in the relevant field.
Programme structure 90 ECTS
The 90 ECTS programme consists of following modules: Sport and Exercise Physiotherapy, Research and Development, Electives and Thesis.
Sport and Exercise Physiotherapy 20 ECTS
The Sport and Exercise Physiotherapy module includes areas such as exercise physiology and biomechanics, performance enhancement, sport injury prevention, assessment, and rehabilitation, therapeutic exercise, medical problems in sport, and exercise as a health tool.
Research and Development 10-15 ECTS
The Research and Development module aims to develop student’s research competencies throughout the studies. This module supports student towards critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as applying appropriate research and development methods to analyze and solve research problems rising from the working life context.
Management Module 5-15 ECTS
Students are able to choose management studies offered by JAMK Master school.
Electives 10-25 ECTS
Students are able to choose elective courses from studies offered by the EduFutura partnership, Campus Online network and JAMK Master School including programs in Sport Business Management and International Business Management. Students can also participate in one of our study tours such as JAMK leadership programme in Silicon Valley, USA.
Thesis 30 ECTS
The thesis is a research and development project that serves working life needs of sport and exercise physiotherapy and supports student’s own career development.
Degree requirement: a bachelor of Health Care in Physiotherapy.
Work experience requirement: in addition to the suitable bachelor’s degree you need to have at least 2 years (24 months) of relevant work experience from the field after graduation.
If you are applying with a non-Finnish qualifications, you need to attach the required enclosures (degree and work certificates) to the online application form by 29 January 2020 by 3.00 pm (UTC+2) (e.g. as pdf. files).
All applicants who have demonstrated their eligibility, filled the pre-assignment and scored at least 20 points in the pre-assignment (max. 40 points) will be invited for the entrance exam which is organised as an interview. The applicant must also score at least 10 points out of 60 points in the entrance examination (interview) in order to pass the exam and have a chance to be admitted to the programme.
The entrance examination (interview) is organized in Finland during weeks 11-13 (9 – 27 March 2020). Note, skype/zoom interview is also available!
